🧠 AI VS. ALS: HOW ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE IS TAKING ON A DEADLY DISEASE. Two breakthroughs are using AI to fight ALS — and give patients more time, more hope, and more connection.

—> 💊 STANFORD'S AI HACK: Scientists from Stanford, UCLA, and Lawrence Livermore Lab used artificial intelligence to scan 20,000 medical records from veterans with ALS. The AI hunted for common drugs already being prescribed — and found 27 that might actually help people live longer. These aren’t miracle cures, but they’re a fast track to new treatments without waiting years for brand-new drugs to be invented.

—> WHY YOU CARE: ALS is one of the most terrifying diseases out there — fast, brutal, and usually fatal in just 2-5 years — and AI is finally giving scientists a fighting chance. With AI speeding up research and restoring communication, scientists are racing to rewrite that story.

You should care because:

  • It’s a proof of concept. AI isn’t just writing poems or passing bar exams — it’s combing through real patient data and finding life-extending treatments today.

  • It means faster cures. Drug development usually takes years. This AI approach found 27 drug candidates in months — using meds we already have.

—> 🖱️ ELON MUSK’S NEURALINK TARGETS ALS: Meanwhile, a man with ALS got a Neuralink brain implant — and now controls his computer with only his thoughts. He can browse the web, talk with family using AI, and even play Mario Kart with his kids. The device reads signals from his brain 1,000 times per second and uses AI to translate them into movement on screen.

🇨🇳 CHINA ORDERS ROBOT BABYSITTERS FOR ITS ELDERLY. The Chinese Communist Party just launched a massive experiment: robot caretakers for the country's aging population. These bots will cook, clean, detect dementia, help with toileting — and even “substitute for a pet.”

—> 🤖 THE ROLL OUT: Beijing wants Chinese tech firms to mass-produce at least 200 robots and test them in homes, hospitals, and senior centers. The robots must lift, bathe, and feed the elderly — and offer “emotional support” through video calls and personalized conversation in regional dialects.

—> 🧓 WHY IT’S HAPPENING: Thanks to decades of the one-child policy, China’s facing a historic population crisis. Over 300 million citizens are now over 60 — and the country is running out of human caregivers. Beijing’s answer? Mechanized nannies that can patrol the halls and stop grandma from wandering.

—> 🇺🇸 WHY IT MATTERS: China’s top-down robot care plan feels dystopian — and it’s just the beginning. What does elder care look like in a society where humans are replaced by machines? The U.S. better start thinking hard about how we want to age — and who, or what, we want caring for us.

GEN Z USING GROK / CHAT GPT FOR INVESTING ADVICE: While many teens chase trends, Gen Z is diving into stocks, turning summer job cash into long-term wealth. With AI tools like Grok, they’re building portfolios before they can vote, reshaping what it means to be young in the digital era.

—> STARTING EARLY: Gen Z invests at 19 on average—six years ahead of Millennials. Some begin younger, like a 15-year-old funneling retirement home wages into Bitcoin and MicroStrategy, using AI to plan decades ahead.

—> WOMEN OUT EARNING MEN: An 18-year-old who once reviewed toys on YouTube now invests $3,000 monthly in Tesla, Nvidia, and Amazon, aiming for an investment property. She’s among young women pushing for financial literacy, frustrated schools skip these skills.

—> AI-DRIVEN GAINS: Blending real-world earnings with tech, teens draw inspiration from Reddit’s WallStreetBets and use AI to avoid get-rich-quick traps. One 17-year-old, working at Taco Bell, scored a 51% return with AI-guided strategies, proving these kids are in it for the long game.

SPACE

🚨☄️ 🌘 MOON IN THE CROSSHAIRS: NASA WARNS ASTEROID COULD STRIKE IN 2032. Asteroid 2024 YR4 — a space rock as tall as a 10-story building — now has a 4.3% chance of hitting the Moon in December 2032, NASA says. It won’t destroy the Moon, but it could leave a massive new crater we’d see from Earth.

—> 🛰️ SPOTTED BY WEBB: First discovered in 2024, this asteroid was once thought to be heading for Earth. Now, thanks to NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope, scientists say Earth is safe… but the Moon might take the hit. Webb’s super-powered camera tracked the asteroid after it drifted too far for ground telescopes to see — boosting NASA’s prediction accuracy by 20%.

—> 💥 IF IT HITS: A direct hit on the Moon’s near side would shake up lunar dust, blast a crater, and be visible from Earth. No danger to our planet or tides — but it would be the first time in human history we could watch a Moon crash in real time.

—> 🛡️ PLANETARY DEFENSE, UPGRADED: This is why NASA trains for space threats. The asteroid’s path is now locked in — and it’ll swing by Earth again in 2028. Until then, scientists will keep watching the skies, prepping for the day a space rock isn’t headed for the Moon… but us.

⚠️ CHATGPT GLITCHES AS OUTAGE HITS USERS WORLDWIDE. OpenAI’s chatbot, API, and Sora services experienced a “partial outage” Tuesday, with users reporting long wait times, error messages, and total service dropouts.

—> 🧠 “TOO MANY REQUESTS”: The issue spiked over 1,700 outage reports on Downdetector. Users got error screens or nothing at all — and took to social media to vent. OpenAI says they’ve found the root cause and are “working as fast as possible” to fix it.

—> 💸 TIMING IS EVERYTHING: The outage comes just days after OpenAI touted its new advanced voice upgrade — and reported it had hit $10 billion in annual revenue. But even billion-dollar bots can crash under pressure.

ONE MORE THING

🐋 WHAT THE WHALE? HUMPBACKS TALKING TO HUMANS. Scientists from the SETI Institute — best known for searching the skies for signs of alien life — are now studying whales to decode intelligent communication here on Earth. Their latest find? Humpback whales may be playfully blowing bubble rings to interact with humans.

Source: Getty

—> 🧠 THE TECH: SETI scientists analyzed 12 episodes of bubble ring behavior involving 11 whales using high-resolution video, acoustic recordings, and behavioral modeling. They fed this data into machine learning models originally designed to scan cosmic radio waves for alien signals. Now, that tech is helping decode whale intelligence — identifying patterns in whale communication that hint at intention, curiosity, and play.

—> 🪐 WHY IT MATTERS: This isn’t just marine biology — it’s part of a bigger plan to train AI to recognize intelligent signals anywhere. SETI’s “nonhuman intelligence” research is building filters to parse alien messages. If whales, with no common language or tech, are trying to connect with us... what might a message from another planet look like?
