mtf.tv's mtf NOW: Pedro Pascal flies you to the moon... Big bang wasn't the beginning?... Quantum a crypto killah?

Plus, Elon Musk to Mars in 90 days?...

🌌 PEDRO PASCAL TAKES YOU TO THE STARS: Pedro Pascal is now your cosmic guide. Encounters in the Milky Way, the brand-new space show at the American Museum of Natural History’s Hayden Planetarium, opens June 9 — and it’s narrated by none other than Pedro Pascal.

—> 🎧 THE EXPERIENCE: For 20 breathtaking minutes, you’ll drift through dazzling starfields, spinning planets, and colliding galaxies. The seat-rumbling visuals are powered by data from NASA’s James Webb Telescope and ESA’s Gaia mission.

—> 🔭 REAL DISCOVERY: While building the show, scientists accidentally found a spiral-shaped structure in the Oort Cloud — a comet-rich region beyond Pluto — marking the first time a Hayden Planetarium Space Show triggered a new scientific discovery.

—> 🚀 MEET THE FUTURE: This is no ordinary planetarium show. It’s a full-body space voyage through motion, science, and imagination — a celebration of wonder, narrated by a Star Wars star. We’re not saying it’s the best date night in NYC… but we’re not not saying that either.

hello, future. it’s me, kev.

…and this is a dispatch from the digital frontier. It’s time to meet the future NOW — with the latest on markets, tech, and freedom. The day is 155 out of 365. The year is 2025. The planet is Earth. The planet has completed 42.47% of its annual orbit around the sun star.

LUNCH BUNCH: Have you been to DC’s i Ricchi — one of the District’s most famous Italian spots for the political class? Owner Christianne Ricchi and our friend Gwen Young, CEO of Women Business Collaborative, hosted a lunch for the producers of the film Lilly yesterday. More here.

FUTURES

📉 WALL STREET HITS PAUSE ON RALLY: After weeks of gains, markets flatlined Wednesday as new economic data flashed yellow.

—> 📊 THE NUMBERS: The S&P 500 closed flat, still 2.8% below record highs. The Dow slipped 91 points (–0.2%), while the Nasdaq eked out a 0.3% gain.

—> ⚠️ WHAT’S DRIVING IT: A key services sector report came in weaker than expected, showing contraction instead of growth. Businesses blamed uncertainty from tariffs, saying it's clouding forecasts and slowing decision-making.

CRYPTO

🧠 QUANTUM VS. BITCOIN: A looming tech threat could nuke Bitcoin’s future — and insiders are quietly panicking.

—> 🧨 THE CRISIS: Quantum computers could someday crack Bitcoin’s cryptography, unlocking billions in long-dormant wallets. Experts warn of a “liquidation event” that could flood the market and crater prices overnight.

—> 🤐 BEHIND CLOSED DOORS: At a hush-hush lunch hosted near Bitcoin 2025 in Vegas, key players — including Casa’s Jameson Lopp and engineers from Marathon Digital — sounded the alarm. The message: the crypto community has less than a decade — maybe just years — to fix this.

—> ⏳ WHY IT MATTERS: Bitcoin’s greatest existential threat isn’t regulation — it’s math. And quantum supremacy isn’t sci-fi anymore.

SPACE

🚀 A 3-MONTH MARS TRIP? NEW TRAJECTORY COULD CHANGE EVERYTHING: Forget what you've heard about Mars taking nearly a year to reach. A new study suggests SpaceX’s Starship might be able to get there in just 90 days — using only existing tech.

📅 THE PLAN: A physics researcher at UC Santa Barbara named Jack Kingdon ran computer models and found a faster way to get to Mars — without waiting for nuclear-powered rockets to be invented. His best-case scenario launches in April 2033, gets to Mars in three months, and brings the crew home by summer 2035.

🧪 HOW THIS WORKS: The idea is simple, but the math is complex. By taking advantage of planetary alignments and smart flight paths, Starship could pull off a shortcut — but only if it’s fully fueled in space first. That means launching 15 separate tankers just to fill up one ship. Once it gets to Mars, the crew would make fuel on the surface from water and carbon dioxide before flying back.

🧱 WHAT’S IN THE WAY?
• Starship still has to prove it can fly reliably — recent tests have had major failures
• We’ve never built a gas station on another planet — and that’s key to getting home
• The Martian atmosphere is thin, and hitting it too fast could be deadly

🔭 WHY THIS MATTERS: This changes the game. Shorter trips mean less radiation exposure and less time in zero gravity, which keeps astronauts healthier. It also means we don’t need to wait decades for futuristic nuclear engines. We could go sooner — maybe even this decade — if the hardware gets there.

🧠 MEET THE FUTURE TAKE: This is a realistic shortcut to Mars using SpaceX’s big bet — Starship — and some clever planning. If they can pull it off, the first Mars crews might leave Earth before today’s middle schoolers graduate college.

QUANTUM // ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE

🌌 WHAT IF THE BIG BANG WASN’T THE BEGINNING? A bold new theory says our universe didn’t begin with the Big Bang — it bounced into existence from inside a black hole. Yep, really. In a new paper in Physical Review D, scientists suggest the Big Bang was actually the result of a collapsing universe that got so dense it rebounded — expanding outward into what we now call... everything.

—> 🕳️ THE BLACK HOLE THEORY: Instead of exploding from nothing, our universe may have formed inside a black hole from another universe. The Big Bang wasn’t the first moment — it was just the bounce.

—> ❓ THEN WHAT WAS THE BEGINNING? This model says there may not be a beginning at all. Our universe could be part of an ongoing cosmic cycle — a loop of collapse and rebirth, playing out across time and space.

—> 🧠 MEET THE FUTURE TAKE: Forget the Big Bang as a one-time event. This theory says we’re living in a bounce house — a universe born from collapse, not creation. Mind = blown.

The big bounce theory… I think that kinda sounds cooler than the big bang theory…

🤖 AI HONORS MAKES ITS DEBUT — DC’S NEW NERD PROM ARRIVES: Dubbed by yours truly as the new nerd prom, Tuesday’s AI Honors Gala at the Waldorf Astoria wasn’t just a party — it was a power shift. Washington officially has a new tech epicenter: artificial intelligence.

—> 💡 WHY IT MATTERS: In a city where crypto had its moment and lobbyists throw nightly receptions, this was different: bipartisan, substantive, and built to last. Founded by Tammy Haddad’s Washington AI Network, and backed by OpenAI, Meta, Microsoft, Amazon, and more, the black-tie event brought lawmakers, defense officials, scientists, Vatican ethicists, and AI execs under one chandelier — all while robots danced and astronauts posed for selfies.
