💰 TRUMP PRESSES POWELL—BUT THE FED WON’T BUDGE: Fed Chair Jerome Powell met with President Trump Thursday at the White House—his first sit-down since Trump’s return to office. The message? Monetary policy won’t be political.
—> 🏦 THE MEETING: Powell discussed the economy but refused to talk rate expectations. Instead, he stressed the Fed's decisions will rely only on incoming data—not political pressure.
—> 📉 WHAT TRUMP WANTS: The president wants aggressive rate cuts, publicly and privately accusing Powell of hurting the U.S. versus China. But futures markets don’t expect cuts until fall at the earliest.
—> 🔧 THE STAKES: Trump’s inflationary tariffs + Fed independence = tension. Powell says he’ll follow the law. Trump says he’s “Too Late Powell.” The central bank isn’t flinching—yet.

FUTURES
🌍 GLOBAL MARKETS SURGE—THEN STALL—AFTER U.S. TARIFFS BLOCKED. A court ruling against Trump’s sweeping tariffs sparked a global rally—but the excitement faded fast as investors questioned what’s next.
—> 🧾 THE RULING: The U.S. Court of International Trade said Trump overstepped with his global tariffs, ruling the 1977 emergency powers law doesn’t authorize such moves. Markets jumped on hopes it could ease trade tensions.
—> 📉 THEN THE COMEBACK COOLED: After a 2% pop in Asia, gains lost steam in the U.S. The S&P 500 closed up just 0.4%, the Dow added 117 points, and the Nasdaq rose 0.4%.

SPACE
🪐 PLANET NINE? TRY PLANET MAYBE. A new dwarf planet—2017 OF201—has been discovered in the far reaches of our solar system, and it might just poke holes in the long-hyped Planet Nine theory.
—> 🔭 THE FIND: Spotted by a trio of U.S. researchers digging through old datasets, OF201 is 430 miles wide and orbits the Sun once every 25,000 years. It swings out 1,600 times farther than Earth—deep into the Oort Cloud.
—> ❌ PLANET NINE IN TROUBLE? Its orbit doesn’t match the weird clustering that originally hinted at a hidden giant planet beyond Neptune. Some astronomers say this weakens the Planet Nine case. Others say it’s too early to rule anything out.
—> 🌌 WHY IT MATTERS: The outer solar system is still largely unmapped. And with the Vera Rubin Observatory coming online soon, astronomers say we’re on the brink of finding many more icy oddballs—or finally confirming Planet Nine’s existence.

MENTAL HEALTH
📱 MURTHY: CONGRESS IS FAILING KIDS ON SOCIAL MEDIA. Former Surgeon General Vivek Murthy is calling out Congress for not protecting children from the mental health harms of social media—and he’s demanding immediate action.
—> 🚨 “NO SEAT BELTS, NO AIRBAGS”: Murthy likened today’s online environment to putting kids in cars with no safety features. “It’s morally unacceptable,” he told Meet the Press, urging Congress to require warning labels and open up social media data for research.
—> 🧠 MENTAL HEALTH CRISIS: He linked social media to rising loneliness, depression, and toxic self-comparison—warning that online ‘connection’ isn’t the same as real-life friendship. “Kids are trying to be somebody they’re not,” he said. “And it’s shredding their self-esteem.”
—> 🏛️ STALLED BILLS, SHRINKING TIME: Two bipartisan Senate bills—KOSA and COPPA 2.0—aimed at regulating platforms never got a House vote last year. Meanwhile, Murthy says kids remain unprotected while their developing brains absorb the worst of the internet.
—> 💸 A PREVENTION FUND? Former Rep. Patrick Kennedy joined the call for reform, pitching a federal “prevention fund” to invest in early mental health support. “If we want better results, we need to invest now.”
